Dr. Vanessa Axelsen

Dr. Vanessa was born and raised in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon. She moved to Sioux City, Iowa, to attend Morningside College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Following college, she pursued her passion for dentistry at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, graduating at the top of her class. During her rotations in dental school, she discovered her love for pediatric care, which inspired her to complete an additional two-year residency in pediatric dentistry. Upon completing residency, she achieved board certification through the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry to ensure she was practicing at the highest level of her field.

Dr. Vanessa’s approach to pediatric dentistry emphasizes patience and kindness. She understands that a visit to the dentist can be scary for some children, and she is dedicated to creating a positive, enjoyable experience that reshapes this narrative. Her favorite part of her work is watching children grow over the years and building strong relationships with their families. Dr. Vanessa aims to foster a lifelong comfort with dental care, helping children feel at ease not only during childhood but well into adulthood.

Outside of work, Dr. Vanessa is also a busy mom. She lives in Olathe with her husband, Mike, and their two boys, Emmett and Ethan. In her free time, she loves being outdoors with her family, whether hiking, biking, or traveling to national parks throughout the country. These days, chances are you will find Dr. Vanessa cheering at the ice rink as her son Emmett enjoys playing his favorite sport, hockey.
