Dr. Elizabeth Hechler

Dr. Lizard (aka Dr. Liz or Dr. Elizabeth Hechler) grew up in Boonville, Missouri. She attended Truman State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in health science. She then pursued her dental doctorate degree at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry. Following dental school, Dr. Liz earned her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry by completing the 2- year Pediatric Dental Residency at the University of Iowa. She truly believes that pediatric dentistry is her calling and she loves getting to know the families and children she works with.

Dr. Liz is very passionate about helping children feel comfortable in the dental office. As a teenager, she began working in the dental field as a dental assistant. She quickly fell in love with it and especially enjoyed working with children. During dental school, she treated many adult patients who were incredibly fearful of the dentist. Many of them cited bad experiences as children as the reason they had avoided dental care for years. Dr. Liz felt that being on the preventive side of care was the best place for her and where she could make the most difference, so she decided to further her education by applying to pediatric residency. Her goal for each patient is to grow up as confident, healthy individuals who understand how to take care of their own oral health and who continue to receive dental care throughout their lives without fear.

Dr. Liz lives in Olathe with her husband Paul, their daughters Genevieve and Josie, and their dogs Dave and Nike. Dr. Liz and Dr. Paul met in dental school – he is an orthodontist is Overland Park. They bonded over their love of teeth, dogs, and running. Dr. Liz has run 20 marathons, many half marathons, and lots of other races. As a family, they also love gardening, cooking, traveling, and looking after their school of guppy fish.
